Free Woodworking Plans

Woodworking help. I need some ideas on some things I could make and sell.?

Okay, I need some ideas on some things I could make out of wood. It can't be anything HUGE but I'd like to make some things that, over time, would bring in some money. I plan to sell some things on eBay. I know that my grandpa used to make chests, trunks, and gun cabinets and sell them on eBay for up to 400 dollars. I can't make anything huge, but what could I make? And, if you have any suggestions on some things that may be big, feel free to go ahead and tell me. Also, if you can tell me, or direct me to a website that can tell/show me how to make these items, please do. Thank you. [[:

  1. Go to a crafts store for ideas on what to make....custom bird houses, feeders or bat houses are pretty easy and can be very profitable....sell at garden centers. Lots of designs and magazines on the Internet. http://www.taunton.com/finewoodworking/ http://www.azwoodman.com/ http://www.woodworkingcrafts.com/ http://www.buildeazy.com/
  2. start with some thig you can ship cheaply like custom shevles and picture frames
  3. I don't mean to rain on your parade, but unless you are very talented and produce objet d'art that will command high money or you want to turn out volumes of home & garden crap, er,crafts, at ridiculously low price and quality, forget about it. You can't compete with Asian labor or CNC machines. As an example, I have a chair sitting here that has casters, oak stretchers, bent oak arms, upholstered seat and back, and a tilting mechanism. Price was $150. I couldn't find all the parts to build it for that.
  4. Try making sculpted cutting boards out of woods that are not normally found in low end stores, like quilted maple or fiddleback sycamore. The amazing figure of the wood alone will justify a higher price, and a little time rounding edges so it isn't just a rectangular plank will make it seem impressive.
  5. I used to make doll houses until I got too busy at work. They can be made small or large. Everything in the house was built and not store bought. Windows, sills, even stair stringers I made. Its a lot of work but a lot of fun as well. Average price for a medium sized house (unpainted) $400-600.
